Die Masse des Treibstoffs und der Fracht schützt die Mannschaft for kosmischer Strahlung. Das Raumschiff verkehrt nur zwischen Erdorbit und Marsorbit. Während normale Raketen die Mannschaft und die Fracht von der Erde in den niedrigen Erdorbit bringen, von wo aus das Raumschiff startet
