One of the greatest advantages of underground construction is the remarkable thermal stability of the surrounding soil. As depth increases, seasonal temperature fluctuations become progressively smaller, while the annual temperature cycle is naturally delayed compared with outdoor air temperatures.

Pneumo Planet takes advantage of these natural physical effects. By carefully optimising the building geometry, insulation strategy and controlled ventilation system, the surrounding soil acts as a huge thermal battery. During summer and autumn, excess solar heat entering through the windows is stored in the ground and gradually released during winter. Under suitable climatic conditions, this allows the building to operate without conventional heating or cooling systems.

Fresh air enters the building through underground air ducts, where it is naturally cooled during summer. At the same time, the extracted warm air transfers heat back into the surrounding soil, continuously regenerating the underground thermal storage for the following winter.

Lightweight Construction – Maximum Efficiency

Pneumo Planet is based on a modular construction system consisting of prefabricated room modules that can be combined in numerous ways to create highly individual homes and buildings.

Each module consists of a double-layer membrane structure divided into triangular inflatable cushions. The interior surfaces are finished with high-quality textile fabrics, creating a warm and comfortable living environment. Modular shelving systems and textile storage elements can easily be integrated into the curved walls, making efficient use of every square metre.

The combination of lightweight membrane construction and the surrounding earth dramatically reduces the amount of conventional building materials required while providing excellent structural and thermal performance.
